Meet Jake- two-time, state wrestling champ. I first heard about him last year when I was capturing senior portraits of his sister. Both his sister and mom, delighted in sharing his story with me. And, it is a story that I have already shared with my own kids. It is just that kind of story. You see Jake started wrestling in middle school. He went 1-19. Yes, you read that correctly. Jake, current state champ, lost more matches than he won- by a lot. Jake stuck with it though and last year, he won his first state championship. This year, he did it again. He is now a two-time state champion. When I asked him what happened to make him go from losing matches to winning, he said it was getting beat so much that made the difference. Obviously, Jake learned from each of those losses. This is a guy who truly exemplifies perseverance. If you want to read more about Jake, check out the piece that the Havelock News did on him- Havelock’s Smith goes back to back.
So, here you go Jake! Here are a few glimpses of what to expect in your full senior portrait gallery!
I loved this one. Although it was one of our first shots I think he looked like an old pro!

This one was taken just a short walk away from that other image up there but we got a totally different look. I love when that happens!
We visited one of the locations that we used for his sister and grabbed this shot. Don’t you just love that pop of color?
And last but not least, we had to figure out a way to incorporate his wrestling. This first one was a no brainer. When I found out he had a ring I knew we had to get a picture of that!

Jake and his mom also brought along some of his other wrestling things. While they went back to the car to grab the other items, I found this nice little hill. If you are familiar with where we live, then you will know, finding a hill is rare. There is a reason our region of the state is called the coastal plain. It is just plain, ole flat- except for our little hill. Take that hill, combine it with a really cool sky and suddenly I had an idea for another wrestling type shot- this one a silhouette. I love both of these.

And last, but not least, one more image that pulls in the wrestling. It is a little unconventional but I like it![]()

Thanks for letting me capture a few images! More coming soon!
